A BIT OF FYI

Vitamins are part of organic compounds that your body needs to function properly and stay healthy. Because your body can’t make most of these nutrients, you have to get them from food or supplements. Your skin too reaps the benefits of a balanced and nutritious diet. But did you know that in addition to consuming vitamins, some also work wonders for your skin when applied topically? Making a Vitamin C Serum part of your skin regiment is the easiest and most direct way to allow your skin to quickly soak up the perks of its effective Vitamin concentrations.

The benefits of topical Vitamin C: Research has shown that most healthy skin contains high levels of Vitamin C, in particular in the two outer layers of the skin, but diminishes as we get older. A powerful anti-oxidant, Vitamin C helps protect the skin against untimely aging (think fine lines, hyper pigmentation, dulling) by fighting to neutralize free radicals and environmental stressors such as radiation, irritants, and pollutants. Vitamin C helps calm the skin and reduce redness and irritation by maintaining and improving the skin’s natural barrier and reducing inflammation response. It helps with skin cell rejuvenation and turn-over, promoting the natural skin healing process by replacing damaged cells with new ones. Vitamin C helps maintain and stimulate skin collagen production resulting in plumper, firmer, more glowing complexion and reduction of fine lines and imperfections. Vitamin C can help hydrate the skin, especially in combination with Vitamin E. Vitamin C helps brighten skin complexion. Usually within days of first application, you will start to notice that your skin looks more even, healthier and radiant.

The benefits of topical Vitamin E: Vitamin E also occurs naturally in our skin, in particular in the epidermis or outer-most layer of our skin. Like Vitamin C it has powerful anti-oxidant properties, fighting to neutralize free radicals, in particular UV rays. It helps protect the skin against sun burn and cell damage due sun exposure that could otherwise cause premature aging. Vitamin E works to strengthen and maintain skin barrier integrity, helping to prevent and reduce inflammation with its soothing and hydrating properties. In combination with Vitamin C it helps reduce and prevent sun and age spots, and improve overall skin radiance and tone. Vitamin E helps Vitamin C to penetrate deeper into the skin to further its magnificent work.

The benefits of topical Mint: Mint contains a significant amount of anti-oxidants, helping to prevent skin damage and delay fine lines and wrinkles. Mint is a mild astringent, and has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which can help clear and calm your skin, reduce redness and skin irritation and promote healing. Mint, in combination with Vitamin C and E, can help lock in moisture, leaving skin looking softer, smoother and well-hydrated. Mint can help boost blood circulation to the skin, helping ensure skin remains well nourished and radiant.

Is my Serum still good?

IS MY SERUM STILL GOOD?

A good vitamin C serum should be an essential part your skincare regimen. Compare labels of popular serums and you may notice Vitamin C comes in several derivatives. While Vitamin C is a powerful anti-oxidant in any form, pure vitamin C, Ascorbic Acid, continues to be the most recommended due to its potency, effectiveness, and most excellent skin absorption. Unfortunately, this superstar is also very delicate and highly prone to oxidation. When Ascorbic Acid is exposed to air, light, or heat discolouration is bound to happen. Thankfully, a serum can go through several levels of discolouration before it loses its efficacy and strength, and becomes unfit for use. We’ve added a swatch to help you out.

To help keep your Serum in top shape for as long as possible, there are a couple of things you can do:

  • Tightly close your bottle after each use.

  • Store bottle (even better - in its tube) in a cool and dark place, such as your bathroom cabinet or in the refrigerator. Storing your serum in the refrigerator will give you a lovely added cooling effect on your skin when applied.

Vitamin C Serum does not last forever, but by adhering to the above, and with daily use (as you should for optimal effects), your serum should last you until your bottle is empty and you are ready for the next bottle.
